Foreclosure activity for 2009 increased in Oklahoma over the prior year. There was a total of 12,93 properties with filings. That works out to a rate of one filing for every 125 households, which compares to the United States average of 45, and is a little less than one percent of the state’s housing units.
Those figures represent a 3 percent increase over 2008 and a 56 percent increase over 2007.
In 2008 there were about 87,700 existing homes (including condos, co-ops, and single-family homes but excluding new homes) sold in Oklahoma, compared to about 102,000 sold in 2007.
Economy:
Oklahoma is one of the leading producers of oil and natural gas in the country, and is currently the fifth biggest producer of wind energy. Forbes magazine recently called Oklahoma City the most “recession-proof city in America” because of its low unemployment, rising economic production and steady real estate market. Oklahoma has major corporate presences from Xerox, Boeing, Cox, UPS, and American Airlines. Aeronautics accounts for ten percent of Oklahoma's manufacturing production. Agriculturally, the state is known for its cattle, pork and wheat.
