Foreclosure activity for 2009 decreased in Nebraska over the prior year. There was a total of 1,845 properties with filings. That works out to a rate of one filing for every 423 households, which compares to the United States average of 45, and is about one fourth of one percent of the state’s housing units.
Those figures represent a 42 percent decrease over 2008 and a 49 percent decrease over 2007.
In 2008 there were about 30,900 existing homes (including condos, co-ops, and single-family homes but excluding new homes) sold in Nebraska, compared to about 36,800 sold in 2007.
Economy:
Nebraska has a strong agricultural tradition, and while most famous for its beef and corn, is also a major producer of wheat, soybeans and pork products. The world's second richest man, Warren Buffet, calls Omaha home and his legendary firm Berkshire Hathaway, is based there. The city is also plays host to some other corporate giants like ConAgra, Mutual of Omaha and TD Ameritrade.
Noteworthy: Buffalo Bill (William Cody) started his famous Wild West Show near his ranch in North Platte, on Independence Day, 1882.
